Once upon a time, there was a land where cats were the ultimate hunters. They were the top of the food chain, able to kill anything they wished, but were very picky eaters. That meant that oftentimes, they killed a creature and only ate a small portion, leaving the rest behind. Humans were not great hunters, and would travel in packs behind a single hunting cat, scavenging off the leftovers.
The greatest of all the hunter cats was Miao. She was quick and clever, able to take down any prey with just a flick of her claw. She was also the pickiest eater of any cat alive. Some hapless creature would happen upon her when she was hungry, and she would pounce, slaying it easily. But in the same moment she pounced, she had already changed her mind about what she wanted for dinner. Too late for the sad sap she had already dispatched. She would lick her lips, swish her long tail, turn around and leave the corpse still bleeding, looking for something that more struck her fancy.
The band of humans that followed Miao around were some of the fattest and happiest humans in the world. They never wanted for scraps since she killed creatures left and right, and lived in peace and harmony. They knew to stay out of her way, and those that strayed knew the price they would pay for their foolishness. One day, an outsider came upon the fat and happy Miao tribe, and begged to be let in. His whole tribe had starved to death when their hunter cat found a sunny patch of jungle floor and decided to take a nap for a month. His tribe didn’t know how to fend for themselves, and all perished. His name was Joko.
Of course the Miao tribe heard his story, tears in their eyes, and let him stay. After a while, they could no longer see his ribs, and he grew strong, but the hunger never left his dark eyes. When his hair had grown long, a woman from the tribe named Wefa fell in love with him and they married and had twins: a son and a daughter. They named the boy Noi, and the girl Noia.
